Babies get common cold or viral infection easily as they are yet to develop immunity to many common infections. Nasal congestion, running nose and cough makes them cranky, irritated and fussy making it harder for parents to handle the baby.
While there are many vapor rub products available in the market. It is not recommended to use them directly on baby’s skin especially on infants.
Today, I’m going to share a home remedy to avoid and cure cold and congestion in babies that’s being practiced in Nepali households since ancient days.
Homemade vicks is very safe for new-borns, infants and toddlers, it’s made using ONLY two ingredients.
- Kapur (Camphor)- is known to help in treating cold and cough and relieve throat congestion.
- Cow Ghee- is non allergic and when applied on chest loosens cough.
NOTE: DO NOT apply this mixture directly on new-borns skin, apply it on a small clean cloth, make a fold and leave it on their chest below the ‘bhoto or ganji’.
I’ve put together a ‘how-to’ video below in Nepali language to help make vicks easily at home.
